Dan comes to the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy following an eighteen year career with the Ottumwa Police Department.  During Dan's tenure with the Ottumwa Police Department, he was assigned to the Emergency Response Team for fifteen years.  Dan also served as the department's firearms, tactics and armor instructor.

Dan is no stranger to the Academy, as he has assisted Academy staff over the years as a firearms instructor.
Dan received his associate of science degree in criminal justice from the Indian Hills Community College.  Dan attended The Bullet Proof Mind, hosted by Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, and Terrorism in America, hosted by John Giduck, author of Terror in Beslan.  Dan has also attended firearms schools with Larry Vickers, Vickers Tactical; Pat McNamara, TMACS, Inc.; and Chris Costa, formally Magpul Dynamics.

Dan will be instructing in the following areas:  Firearms, including handgun, shotgun, rifle and subgun, Observation and Perception; Patrol Techniques and Beat Assignments; Risk Management; Building Searches; Felony Calls in Progress; F.A.T.S. Judgmental Training and Basic SWAT.
