Keith Varner served as a police officer with the Iowa State University Police Department from 2011 – 2019. Keith served as a member of the Criminal Investigations Unit as a general crimes detective from 2015 – 2019. Keith assumed many roles during his career with ISUPD. He was an instructor in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the lead bike patrol officer and instructor, an evaluator in the Patrol Training Officer program, was on the hostage negotiations team, acted as a crime scene investigator, a Cellebrite Certified Operator, a Physical Analyst and a background investigator.
Keith holds an AA in Criminal Justice from Scott Community College. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a BA in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. Keith has since attended many training sessions with focuses in criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, interview and interrogation, bike patrol, Field Sobriety Testing and general instruction.
While at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy he will be the primary instructor in the following areas: Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, OWI Enforcement, Precision Driving, Bike Patrol, and Crime Scene Photography.
