All non-certified law enforcement personnel will at a minimum have one-year experience with their agency prior to becoming an instructor and will not be a probationary employee. Supporting documentation is required. In order to attend an instructor class, you must provide proof of the following:
Oleoresin Capsicum Instructor: (4) or more hours of previous Oleoresin Capsicum instruction from an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certified Oleoresin Capsicum Instructor.
Certificates issued after the previous training was completed indicating the type of training, the instructor’s name, date and location of the training and numbers of hours, or a letter signed by your department’s hiring authority or training officer on department letterhead indicating the type of training, the instructor’s name, date and location of the training, and the number of hours are required documentation.
After your on-line registration is completed supporting documentation is required.
Documentation must be received within 10 days of the scheduled Instructor course. Hand carried documentation will not be accepted. Verification of previous training must be completed before the beginning of each course.
This course is for the Basic Instructor Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol. The instructor will have updates in the following instruction: principles, skills, and techniques necessary to understand how and when to use OC; techniques to control violent and aggressive behavior including the use of OC; methods to reduce personal injury to officers, subjects and the general public; methods to situations; techniques to lessen the civil liability exposure of the officer and employer relating to allegations of unnecessary or improper force when used to control violent and aggressive behavior.
This class will provide OC Instructor Certification valid for three years, expiring 12/31/2022.
