Course Descriptions

Bicycle Patrol Officer Course

Officers attending this course will learn how to ride safely and comfortably in traffic, off-road and in the various conditions they are likely to experience. Topics will include: developing fundamental skills, riding in diverse traffic situations and practicing techniques designed to safely apprehend criminals. Drills and exercises will include: learning how to hop curbs, ascend/descend stairs and perform emergency maneuvers designed to prevent crashes. Firearms qualification and a long ride will round out the program. Special concerns and required equipment will be addressed in the registration packet. Officers attending this class need to be physically fit and confident in their bike riding skills. Officers will provide duty ammunition for the firearms qualification. Class enrollment will be limited to twenty-five currently certified Iowa law enforcement officers.
