Defensive Tactics Instructor Course
All non-certified law enforcement personnel will at a minimum have one-year experience with their agency prior to becoming an instructor and will not be a probationary employee. Supporting documentation is required. In order to attend an instructor class, you must provide proof of the following:
Defensive Tactics Instructor: (36) hours or more of previous Defensive Tactics instruction from an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certified Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Certificates issued after the previous training was completed indicating the type of training, the instructor’s name, date and location of the training and numbers of hours, or a letter signed by your department’s hiring authority or training officer on department letterhead indicating the type of training, the instructor’s name, date and location of the training, and the number of hours are required documentation.
After your on-line registration is completed supporting documentation is required.
Documentation must be received within 10 days of the scheduled Instructor course. Hand carried documentation will not be accepted. Verification of previous training must be completed before the beginning of each course.
This is a rigorous five-day course which will provide an instructor certification in the area of defensive tactics. Required clothing and equipment will consist of department training Polo’s or T-Shirts, BDU style training pants, athletic shoes, duty belt, training weapon if available, ballistic vest, mouth guard, groin protection and handcuffs. No sweats or shorts please.
