These twelve-hour courses presents a variety of topics including recent legislation and timely topics directly affecting law enforcement. Attendance at one of these schools will satisfy the annual twelve-hour requirement of mandatory in-service training. Due to numerous requests from the field for annual firearms qualification, the twelve-hour program will be extended to sixteen hours for annual firearms qualification for those agencies wishing to have their officers re-qualified.
The additional four hours will be "optional" and so indicated on the registration form when registering for one of these schools. Those wishing to re-qualify will be required to bring at least fifty rounds of duty handgun ammunition, along with their weapon and duty belt. Hearing and eye protection will be available at the Academy. Class enrollment will be limited to certified Iowa law enforcement officers.
